Risograph Boarding Pass: Exploring my complex connection to my Home Country

In this project, I wanted to capture my complex but beautiful relationship to my home country of Brasil. I remember growing up and becoming more aware of the issues that go on in there, and wanting people to focus on the beauty rather than the sadness. I created a boarding pass to my hometown, Salvador Bahia, that visually showcased this beauty through abstract, organic shapes as well as more figurative cultural symbols.

The pass also features a poem “Lembre de Mim Como o Sol” (Remember me for the sun), which I wrote in a way to encapsulate and process my feelings towards my home country. The poem speaks about how rather than remembering my home country for its corruption, I will remember it for the joy and beauty it holds.

One of my recent goals was to learn how to use the Risograph printer, so I took the opportunity with this project. I thought it was perfect due to the vibrancy which I feel reflects Brasil and is seen open in latin american design.

I chose Helvetica Neue as the sans-serif typeface showing the more standard information that would be on a boarding pass. I chose the typeface that looks handwritten to differentiate my personal writing from the more standard boarding pass. I used some images of cultural symbols to show the richness of Brazilian culture.
