“Explore the Ocean, Not Mars” Micro-Campaign
More than 80% of the ocean is unexplored, and only about 5% has been physically seen by humans. According to recent data, the global government expenditure on space programs in 2023 reached approximately $117 billion, with the United States spending the most at around $73.2 billion on its space programs.
In this project I created a bright pamphlet about interesting marine animal facts that leads to a video prompting people (specifically teens to young adults) to advocate for ocean exploration and conservation. The pamphlet aims to grab the attention of the audience, sending them deeper into the ocean with unique marine creatures. The video is intended to highlight the discrepancy between funding of marine exploration versus space exploration, and urge the audience to advocate for increased research in our unexplored ocean rather than running away to different planets instead. I hope to increase interest in marine creatures and their habitats, even if we don’t see them everyday!
I knew I wanted to incorporate alot of color into the project, to make it more interesting to younger audiences.
Here are some early experiments of the project playing with different paper and print styles.
While this hot pink offered a fun pop, I really enjoyed the graininess and texture of the tan paper, which was still very readible unlike the print on blue paper.
